Armenian troops violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan
Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian military 85 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported on June 10.
Armenians stationed in Aygepar and Mosesgeh villages of Armenia’s Berd district opened fire on the Azerbaijani armed forces stationed in Alibayli and Aghdam villages of Azerbaijan’s Tovuz district.
Aside from that, Armenia’s armed forces stationed on nameless heights in the Krasnoselsk district of Armenia opened fire on the Azerbaijani army positions in Qaravalilar village and on nameless heights of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh district.
Azerbaijani positions were also fired at by Armenians’ stationed near the villages of Chilyaburt, Chayli of the Terter district, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli, Bash Gervend, Kengerli, Merzili of the Aghdam district, Talysh, Tapqaraqoyunlu, Gulustan of the Goranboy district, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Gorgan of the Fizuli district and Mehdili of the Jabrail district.
Armenians were also firing from positions on nameless heights of the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.
The enemy was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
