Azerbaijan, Iran can form joint committee on media

Baku and Tehran will discuss the establishment of a joint committee on media affairs.

"This issue will be discussed as part of a visit of Iranian delegation led by the head of the Iranian State Radio and Television Ezzatollah Zarghami to Azerbaijan on October 9," the Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend news agency.

The visit will take place upon the invitation of Communications and High Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov.

The embassy said the cooperation issues, exchange of experience and organizing media trainings, joint production of films and television series, organizing the technical courses in the field of television and radio broadcasting will also be considered.

Moreover, Zarghami will hold meetings with the management of several Azerbaijani media outlets and TV channels.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $281.03 million in 2013, which is 6.13 percent higher than 2012. The figure stood at $263.785 million in 2012.
