Baku hosts World Youth Mobile Forum

Azerbaijan's capital Baku has hosted the World Youth Mobile Forum, organized by the Caspian Investment Center and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Intigam Babayev said that the forum aims to bring Azerbaijani youths nearer to new technologies and use the existing opportunities in this area effectively.

The aim of the two-day forum was to provide an insight into the latest achievements in mobile technologies and to study international experience in making and using mobile applications.

Babayev said such forums open up new prospects for the development of the outlook of youths on mobile technologies.

The Baku forum also received organizational support from ECAbit, Eastern European and Central Asian Business Incubators and Technology Parks Network, and infoDev, a global program of the World Bank.

The event featured several sessions on topics including mobile technologies and "youths' virtual business", innovations and investments in mobile technologies, etc.

The forum was attended by around 30 ICT specialists from 20 countries -- the U.S., Finland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Tunis, Jordan, India and Singapore.

Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell held a meeting of Mobile Monday Azerbaijan (MoMo) jointly with the Caspian Investment Center in the frame of the World Youth Mobile Forum.

The meeting gathered a community of professionals and amateurs of the mobile industry of Azerbaijan and gave them all a chance to ask questions in "real-time" to experienced and professional mentors from Britain, Finland, Romania, India and Germany.

Bakcell CEO Richard Shearer, who also participated at the meeting, made a presentation about the development of mobile communications and announced the winners of the competition for the best mobile application announced by Bakcell in October 2012 in the frame of Mobile Monday.

The winners of the competition for the best local mobile application organized by Bakcell are
Shaig Muradov and his team ("Kinotap" application). Farkhad Alekperov and his team with their "Aztagram" application took 2nd place and Agshin Khalikov and his team with their Baku ATM" application ranked 3rd.

Originated in Helsinki Finland, in 2000, Mobile Monday (MoMo) is an open community platform of key mobile industry visionaries, developers and influential people fostering cooperation and business opportunities through live networking events. Baku is the 123rd city joining Mobile Monday and Bakcell is the Official Partner of MoMo Azerbaijan in collaboration with CIC.

The number of users of mobile communication services is growing in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's mobile communication operators have already launched 3G and 4G services.
