The Baku undergorund is planning to purchase three new subway cars produced by Russia's major company Transmashholding.

The Baku subway started testing five new subway cars of 81-760/761 series in January. The new subway cars are equipped with climate control and air disinfection systems, as well as heating systems for the passengers and driver cabins.

Baku Metro head Taghi Ahmadov told the local press that the new subway cars are planned to be launched on the Avtovokzal (Bus Terminal) and Memar Ajami-2 routes, which are planned to be opened next year.

These two subway stations were to be commissioned this year, however, the completion terms changed due to communication works and postponement. The stations are now expected to open by May 2014.

Ahmadov went on to say that Baku Metro will build some 50 new stations by 2030. Currently, eight stations and two train depots are under construction.

Ahmadov also said construction of a tunnel from Hazi Aslanov station to Yeni Guneshli settlement is planned to finish in 2016.

Opened in November 1967, the Baku subway is currently 34.56 kilometers long with 23 stations. It has two lines, while in the future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the length up to 119 kilometers, and the number of stations up to 76.
