Law enforcers launch child porn case

The Prosecutor-General's Office has started a criminal case over
the recent spread of child pornography via cellular phones in
Azerbaijan. The case has been forwarded to the Interior Ministry's
department in charge of investigating organized crime.
An individual accused of spreading pornography films has been
detained as a result of the department's operation. Ilkin Huseynov
had arranged the spread and transfer of such films at the Tacir
internet cafe in the Yasamal district of Baku, the ministry
said.
Kamalya Aghazada, chairwoman of the Azerbaijan Union for Children
that is engaged in protecting children and teenagers' rights, is
concerned that such instances could become widespread.
"Those spreading such videos or anyone who receives them should
realize that this footage enters their home and family, and affects
children's upbringing and psychological state," she said.
Aghazada said parents are also to blame for the spread of such
videos. She said many kids nowadays take cell phones with
unnecessary features to school.
"Parents should give their children regular cell phones, not phones
with blue tooth or iPod. Besides, access to internet cafes and
pornography websites should be definitely banned, while children's
watching films broadcast via satellite should be allowed strictly
with [parental] guidance," Aghazada said.
Azerbaijan's Criminal Code currently has no provision on
prosecution for making or spreading child pornography. But the Code
generally says that those illegally disseminating such materials
will face fines and up to two years of imprisonment and forced
labor.
