The Detroit Electric SP:01, the world's fastest serial electric car, was showcased in the House of Azerbaijan. The sports car was created by American manufacturer of electric vehicles Detroit Electric.
It was presented by Green Car with the support of the Public Association IDEA and dedicated to the first European Games underway in Baku.
Environmental projects are essential to the modern world and Azerbaijan serves no exception. Notwithstanding the fact that the country is an oil producer, electric car use is now spreading throughout the capital city.
There are over 1.2 cars on the roads of Azerbaijan, most of them being concentrated in Baku. This has profoundly negative environmental impacts.
To combat pollution, the country has implemented the Euro-4 standard on imports, which has decreased the number of older imported cars brought in from abroad
Rising fuel costs will also force people to think differently about their transportation means.
The switch to electricity, however, raises questions about its production. For this, the country plans to develop its gas resources, since it makes up roughly 92 percent of electricity production in Azerbaijan. Thus fuel for ecologically safe cars will not be a problem in Azerbaijan.
The country already began the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles.
The installation of modern charging stations started as part of a project, implemented by Green Car, Azerishig and Public Association IDEA, in Baku and various locations throughout the country from mid June.
The first such station was installed in the parking lot of the Heydar Aliyev Center.
It is controlled by a special program and embodies the most advanced technologies to ensure cars with electric energy.
Green Car Company has begun the realization of large-scale innovative environmental projects with the support of the Automobile Federation of Azerbaijan and Public Association IDEA from 2014.
The main aim of the projects is the implementation of the most advanced technologies and methods, innovations in the field of environmental protection, and the promotion of a healthy environment in Azerbaijan.
The projects will also feature electric vehicles - cars, buses, motorcycles, and bicycles, etc - produced in different countries.
The last issue in the project is the price of such vehicles, which tend to be quite high relative to conventional vehicles. Baku, however, loves expensive cars so much that electric vehicle alternatives are expected to be very popular soon. At present, world famous Tesla cars are already available for purchase at Green Car Company dealerships.
