Baku hosts World Customs Organization conference

The first regional conference of the European Heads of National Training Centers of the World Customs Organization (WCO) kicked off in Baku.
Addressing the event, chairman of the Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee and Vice Chair for the World Customs Organization Europe Region Aydin Aliyev said, "Human resources training is very important for us, because they are connected to the future of Azerbaijani customs."
The conference is attended by the representatives of 42 participant and five observer countries, and a number of international organizations.
The three-day conference features three sessions; "Urgent Issues and Exchanging Views on Customs Training", "Advanced Approaches in Customs Training", and "Outcomes of the Conference, the Way Leading to the Future, the Signing of the Final Document".
The first session focuses on the development of national human resources, teaching strategies, and improvement of personnel skills and activities.
"After Azerbaijan was elected Vice Chair for the WCO Europe Region, it put forward interesting proposals. This event is the conference of the European Heads of National Training Centers of the World Customs Organization. WCO Director for Capacity Building Erich Kieck is also attending the conference," Aliyev said.
There are six training centers in the world, and one of them is
in Baku, Aliyev added.
Kieck, in turn, said WCO brings together 180 countries.
"We have invited the representatives of the training centers of 52 European countries to attend the three-day conference in Baku. This conference is organized to study advanced experience in terms of developing human resources. We have come to give our support in the customs sphere and make use of the experience existing here," he said.
At the end of the conference, the participants will visit the Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) of the WCO European Region, WCO Regional Training Center.
