Alat zone evolves from trade gateway to clean energy powerhouse

Azerbaijan’s recent signing of an investment agreement with China’s Sichuan Sunsync Photovoltaic Technology Co. to build a solar panel manufacturing facility in the Alat Free Economic Zone marks a pivotal moment in the country’s energy and industrial strategy. The project, which will span 23 hectares and include three advanced production plants, is designed to produce up to 3 gigawatts of solar panels annually, along with silicon crystals and components. This is more than a manufacturing deal—it’s a signal of Azerbaijan’s intent to become a regional hub for renewable energy technology and a future exporter of green power.
