Azerbaijan  suspends land, air entry, exit over COVID-19

Due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Cabinet of Ministers has completely suspend access to the country's territory by land and air effective April 5, except for cargo transportation, local media reported on April 4.

“As of 00:00 on April 5, 2020, local flights will be completely suspended. This decision will be valid until 00:00 on April 20, 2020,” the Cabinet of Ministers' statement reads.

The decision is aimed to intensify the work on fast detection of coronavirus infection cases, isolation, identification of those who were in contact with the infected person and quarantine them, regulation of reception capacity of quarantine zones and increasing readiness of hospitals in the country.

Some 584 cases of infection have been recorded in the country. Around 32 people recovered, 7 died and treatment of the remaining 545 patients continues.

Taking into account the global spread of the virus, Azerbaijani citizens abroad are strongly recommended to show restraint and understanding, strictly observe the quarantine regime in the country of stay, avoid traveling and contact Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions in the case of necessity, the Cabinet of Ministers' statement further reads.
