Arab tourists book Azerbaijani hotels most of all

Over the past few years, the tourism market of Azerbaijan has made a big leap forward. Today, the tourism industry is one of the priorities of the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.

In order to ensure the continuity of development of this sphere, important programs and projects are being implemented, legislation is being improved, and an appropriate infrastructure is being created with the support of the state.

From January to September 2018, 2,446,800 accommodations were registered in hotels in Azerbaijan, which is 24.4 percent more compared to the same period 2017, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said on October 25.

Most often, foreigners stay in capital hotels, while Ganja accounts for less than one percent of hotel rooms booked by tourists.

Baku accounted for 57.8 percent of all accommodations, Gabala - 10.6 percent, Khachmaz - 6.6 percent, Naftalan and Guba - 3.9 percent each, Gusar - 3.8 percent, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic - 2.7 percent, Gakh - 1.1 percent, Ganja and Lankaran - 0.8 percent each, and other districts of Azerbaijan - 8 percent.

The number of foreigners and stateless persons who booked accommodations in Azerbaijani hotels also increased by 31.3 percent compared to the same period of 2017, reaching 1,651,700, which is 67.5 percent of total hotel accommodations.

As many as 13.3 percent of accomodations accounted for UAE citizens.

Some 11.4 percent fell for the share of Russia, 9.9 percent - Saudi Arabia, 5.2 percent - Iran, 4 percent - Turkey, 3.8 percent - Israel, 3.6 percent - India, 3.3 percent - Kuwait, 2.7 percent - the UK and Iraq each, 2.6 percent - the US, 2.5 percent - Qatar, 2.2 percent - Pakistan, 1.5 percent - Kazakhstan, 1, 4 percent - Oman, 1.2 percent - Germany, 1.1 percent - Bahrain, 1 percent - Ukraine, 26.6 percent - other countries.

Accommodation of Azerbaijani citizens in hotels increased by 12 percent (reaching 795,100 accommodations) compared to the same period of 2017.

Hotel revenues amounted to 286.1 million manats following the results of the first nine months of 2018.

In January-September this year, 2,208,600 foreigners and stateless persons from 193 countries arrived in Azerbaijan, which is 6.4 percent more compared to the same period last year.

Some 31.2 percent of those who arrived in Azerbaijan are citizens of Russia, 19.8 percent - Georgia, 10 percent - Turkey, 9.2 percent - Iran, 3.3 percent - the United Arab Emirates, 3 percent - Saudi Arabia, 2.7 percent - Iraq, 2 percent - Ukraine, 1.5 percent - Israel, 17.2 percent - other countries, 0.1 percent - stateless persons.

In total, 467,800 people arrived from the countries of the Persian Gulf, that is, almost every fifth tourist was a citizen of these countries.

During the period, the number of tourists from EU countries increased by 8.9 percent, reaching 88,900 people, from CIS countries - by 4.7 percent, reaching 813,700 people.
