Prague hosts Chess Tournament to honor Azerbaijan’s national leader

The first International Chess Tournament among amateurs on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev was held in Prague, Czech Republic.

The event with co-organization of Czech-Azerbaijani Public Union and support of the Azerbaijani embassy in Czech Republic brought together amateur chess players of both countries.

Awarding ceremony was held at the Azerbaijani embassy. Azerbaijani Ambassador Farid Shafiyev presented gifts and certificates to the winners.

Speaking at the ceremony, the ambassador highlighted the life and activity of national leader Heydar Aliyev, his historical services to the Azerbaijani people and state.

He also underlined Azerbaijani chess traditions, the country's achievements in this sport.

Shafiyev thanked all the participants expressing confidence that it would become a tradition in chess tournaments, AzerTac state news agency reported.
