Iran, IAEA kick off nuclear talks in Vienna
By Sara Rajabova
Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) started a new round of talks over Tehran's nuclear energy program in Vienna, on September 27.
Iran's new ambassador to IAEA Reza Najafi heads Tehran's negotiating team in Vienna.
Ahead of the talks, Najafi expressed hope that the upcoming talks between Tehran and the agency over the country's nuclear energy program will produce "good results," Press TV reported.
He said this is the first session to be held with the agency after the inauguration of the new Iranian administration. "We hope the session will be a good beginning for the planned process, which is constructive interaction between the two sides," Najafi added.
However, he emphasized that no one should expect "all issues to be resolved in a one round of negotiations."
Earlier, Najafi said that Iran will cooperate with the U.N. nuclear agency to find ways to "overcome existing issues once and for all".
The Vienna meeting comes a day after ministerial-level nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - plus Germany New York.
The West suspects Tehran's nuclear program may be aimed at developing nuclear weapons capability, with the U.S. and European Union using the claim as an excuse to impose illegal sanctions against Tehran.
However, Iran insists that its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes.
Iran reiterates that its main demand is that its right to uranium enrichment, as stipulated in the NPT, be recognized.
