Tbilisi accuses Moscow of provocation in Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone

The Georgian Foreign Ministry condemns the incident in the Kveshi village, located in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone on August 10.
According to the report, a mobile crew of the Georgian Interior Ministry was patrolling in the village Kveshi of the Gori region controlled by the central authorities of Georgia, when Russian troops opened fire. The incident resulted in no injuries.
The ministry reported that these actions are aimed at further destabilizing the situation in the conflict region and the neighborhood as well as provoking the Georgian side.
"These illegal actions are of particular concern given there are no international security mechanisms applied in the regions of conflict, and Russia still refuses to recognize the obligation not to use force in response to a unilateral commitment of Georgia," the statement reads.
Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
