Turkmen delegation to hold negotiations in Tokyo

A delegation of Turkmenistan plans to participate in the next meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and Japan, to be held in Tokyo on Nov.9-10, an official Turkmen source said.

Negotiations in the format of "Central Asia plus Japan", initiated by the Japanese side, have been held since 2004.

According to the order of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, Turkmenistan's health minister will also visit Japan in order to further enhance cooperation in health sphere and become familiar with activity of leading hospitals.

Japanese companies are represented on the Turkmen market in oil and gas, transport and communications, construction, health care and water management.

Participation in projects to modernise fuel and energy, particularly the modernisation of the Caspian state's largest oil refinery in Turkmenbashi worth $1.6 billion is especially conspicuous.

President Berdimuhammadov paid official visit to Japan in 2009. During his visit, several agreements and contracts were signed with JGC Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation, Kawasaki Plant Systems Ltd and Sojitz Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corporation, Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation.

The sides believe that Japanese high-tech know-how and Turkmenistan's rich natural resources complement each other.

A number of projects are implemented in Turkmenistan at the expense of a commercial loan of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
