Kazakh government promises support to joint agro-projects with U.S.

Due to the fact that at present the United States is one of the most important global actors, capable of exerting a significant influence on the development of political and economic processes, one of the top priorities of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy is the development of relations with this country.

Prime Minister Askar Mamin met with leaders of major American agricultural companies, the press service of the head of government informs.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the development of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex.

The meeting discussed the development of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex in the framework of the implementation of agreements reached during the official visit of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the U.S. in 2018.

Today, Kazakhstan and the United States are working on new joint projects for the construction of a meat processing plant with a capacity of up to 2,000 head of cattle per shift, a feed center, a fish-farming complex, an agri-business park, and an irrigation system production plant.

Mamin noted that the government will provide full support to Kazakh-American cooperation in the agro-industrial sector.

Representatives of foreign companies noted the large potential of joint production, as well as the favorable geographical position of Kazakhstan, which opens up new sales markets for companies, including to the countries of the EAEU, Central Asia and China.

Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the United States were established on January 7, 1992.

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the U.S amounted to $2.1 billion at the end of 2018. Kazakhstan exported in the U.S. goods and services worth $1.38 billion, while imports from the U.S. totalled $729 million.

Imports of goods from the United States to Kazakhstan are machines, electrical equipment, ground vehicles and aircraft.

Exports of goods to the United States from Kazakhstan amounted to products of the chemical and related industries, products in the form of granules or powder, machinery and equipment.

More than 500 companies with U.S. capital work in Kazakhstan. In recent years, such companies as Primus Power, Spancrete, Uber, Starbucks, McDonalds and Netflix have entered Kazakhstan.

The introduction of a visa-free regime for up to 30 days for U.S. citizens since the beginning of 2017 plays a positive role in promoting tourism in Kazakhstan.
