Russia to help Kyrgyzstan in railway network development

The railway transport of Kyrgyzstan is a necessary link in the economy of the republic, the most important advantages of which are the efficiency of long-distance cargo transportation, its high carrying capacity and regularity of work throughout the year.

During the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, jointly with the open joint stock company Russian Railways and the Ministry of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan, together with the State Enterprise Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on railway development projects.

From the Russian side, Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich and CEO - Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov signed the document, from the Kyrgyz side - Minister of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan Zhanat Beishenov and CEO of the National Enterprise Kyrgyz Temir Jolu State Company.

The project is aimed at the social and economic development of Kyrgyzstan. It will allow revealing the potential of its internal regions, to create new jobs in enterprises along the line under construction.

The unity of the technological standards of 1,520 will enable seamless cargo delivery both in the direction of Uzbekistan and Russia. Within the framework of the memorandum, an agreement was reached on a joint discussion of the project with its other participants - China and Uzbekistan.

Kyrgyz Railways will receive technological and expert support from the Russian Railways. This will allow them to become more efficient, increase revenues and payments to the budget.

Among the projects under consideration, the document indicates the construction of a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and a railway junction of the northern and southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.

The memorandum notes the positive dynamics and effectiveness of joint actions to develop a preliminary feasibility study of projects for the phased development of the railway network in Kyrgyzstan, in particular, the completion of the first stage of the document development in February 2019.

According to the results of the preliminary feasibility study, the optimal form of cooperation between the two countries' railways will be chosen, which will take into account the interests of the parties.

Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia were established on March 20, 1992.

Kyrgyzstan has traditionally close relations with Russia - both countries are strategic partners, are included in such organizations and associations as the SCO, CSTO and the EEU.

Russia and Kyrgyzstan interact in the framework of such associations as the CIS, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Kyrgyzstan joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on August 12, 2015, of which Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia are also members.

Russia's exports to Kyrgyzstan following types of goods: mineral products; food products and agricultural raw materials; metals and products from them; chemical industry products; machinery, equipment and vehicles; wood and pulp and paper products; textiles and footwear.

The structure of Russian imports consists of the following groups of goods: cars, equipment and vehicles; metals and products from them; textiles and footwear; food products and agricultural raw materials; chemical industry products.
