By Rashid Shirinov
Turkey has launched a mine cleaning project that stipulates demining operations on the borders with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iran, Turkish media reported on April 5.
The project, which will be carried out in the border areas of 15 million square meters, is funded by the Turkish government and the European Union.
The mine cleaning work will start in Turkey's Igdir province and will last two years. For these purposes, special equipment and specially trained dogs will be attracted to the project.
Operations have already begun with the Agridag mountain. Reportedly, some 222,000 mines were detected in these border areas of the country.
Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
The Turkey-Azerbaijan border makes 15 kilometers.
