Armenians planning 'independent states' outside borders: historian
The key goal of Armenians is to establish "independent Armenian
states" in the territories of Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, an
Azerbaijani historian says.
Ideologists from Armenia, which has been occupying over 20 per cent of Azerbaijan's internationally-recognized territory, plan to unify these "states" under the "Armenian United States" title, said Israfil Mammadov, a professor at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences.
"Armenians have been struggling to materialize this very 'Great Armenia' idea for centuries," he said.
The scholar said that Armenians have accomplished their first goal by casting into international spotlight the "genocide of Armenians" issue. The parliaments of a number of countries have already recognized that they were allegedly subjected to genocide in the early 20th century. The second stage of the plan is now getting under way. Armenian ideologists claim that the number of Armenians deported from Turkey during World War I amounts to 2.5 million. They maintain that the modern Turkish state is to ensure these persons' return and provide reparations to them. At the same time, they are seeking to set up an Armenian autonomy in the Turkish territory, Mammadov said.
