Armenian sniper wounds Azeri civilian: reports

An Azerbaijani civilian was wounded after Armenian armed forces
violated ceasefire on the contact line of the two countries’ troops
on Friday, reports say. The incident occurred after the Armenian
troops, based in an occupied village of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam
district, opened fire at around noon at the opposite Azerbaijani
positions as well as another village located along the frontline,
the Baku-based ANS TV channel reported.
The 38-year-old man who grazes cattle received heavy injuries in his arm and abdomen. He is said to have been hit by a sniper.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus republics reared up in the late 1980s due to Armenia's territorial claims. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally-recognized territory since the early 1990s in defiance of international law. The ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but over a decade of efforts by US, Russian and French mediators have been fruitless so far, and Armenia frequently violates ceasefire.*
