Azerenergy implements new project

As part of the project for compensation reactive power, Azerenergy JSC is installing controlled shunt reactors with the capacity of 120 megavolt/amperes at 330-kilovolt “Yashma” substation, as well as 180 megavolt/amperes shunt reactors at 330- kilovolt “Goranboy” distribution point, the company’s press service has reported.
Thus, new reactors are being installed on two main nodes of Azerbaijan’s energy system.
Controlled shunt reactors of high power are installed at the junction of the main high voltage transmission lines of 330-kilovolt, which connect substation of system importance, and in areas with power flow. As in this situation, the existing reactive charging power on 330- kilovolt system- forming lines not only reduces their capacity, but also causes losses.
Upon completion of the project, the shunt reactors, by taking and regulating the reactive load of 330-kilovolt high voltage lines, will improve performance by regulating the load flow and thus provide reactive load compensation. Controlled shunt reactors will not only increase line capacity, but also reduce technical loss, thus improving quality and saving a lot of energy and financial resources.
Additionally, although the installation of two managed shunt reactors at the nodal points is currently sufficient for the country’s power system, additional shunt reactors will be installed in accordance with the 2030 vision plan, as the number of high- voltage substations and transmission lines increases.
In 1996, "Azernergy" Open Joint Stock Company was established under the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan .
By enabling the activity of the electro energy system of the country, “Azerenergy” Open Joint-Stock Company realizes the coordination of the electricity production and transmission, single center-controlled electric stations, substations, system-organizing high-voltage - 110, 220, 330, 500 kW electricity transmission lines and their dispatcher management tools. Applying new technologies, it organizes the growth of generating forces in our republic and construction of the high-voltage power transmission lines. Meanwhile, it conducts energy exchange operations with foreign countries.
