London to host Arshin Mal Alan presentation

The King's College London will host a free screening of Arshin Mal Alan (The Cloth Peddler), a world-famous musical comedy by Azerbaijani legendary composer Uzeyir Hacibeyli.
The event is supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani embassy, ASAIF and TEAS, AzerTag state news agency reported.
This comic and romantic operetta, which was ahead of its time and rich in national characteristics and realism, is about pure love, women's rights, fight against outdated traditions, and aspiration for modern way of life free of damaging customs.
The film shot in 1945, is based on the same-name operetta, which is the third and last operetta of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the great Azerbaijani composer. It was composed and staged in Baku one century ago, in 1913.
New screen life was given to the popular movie on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The colored version of restored movie was first screened in Baku in late 2013.
