Azerbaijani poets anniversary to be marked in France

Birth anniversaries of genius Azerbaijani masters of the word Nizami Ganjavi and Mahsati Ganjavi will be celebrated in France.

The events dedicated to their anniversaries will be held with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the foundation told Trend on November 9.

The 870th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi and 900th anniversary of Mahsati Ganjavi are widely celebrated in Azerbaijan.

An exhibition devoted to Nizami Ganjavi will be opened on November 12 in collaboration with the 7th arrondissement and the Museum of Letters and Manuscripts in Paris.

Visitors will be able to see the archaeological items related to Nizami Ganjavi's life and activity, namely, coins of Shirvanshakh and Atabay period, samples of jewelry, household items, reproductions of miniatures created by Azerbaijani artists in the Middle Ages, crockery, painted miniatures, as well as carpets and batik based on the plots of the poems included in "Khamsa".

The exhibition will also showcase photos taken in Ganja in late 19 and early 20 centuries, the layout of the mausoleum of the poet-philosopher in Ganja, photos of monuments erected in Baku, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Rome, Cheboksary, and Beijing, and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's publications about Nizami Ganjavi's creativity.

A concert featuring songs based on Nizami Ganjavi's poems will be presented at the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Paris on November 13. Cultural events are also planned in Strasbourg on November 19.

Based on the UNESCO's decision, the exhibitions and concerts will be organized in the French cities of Reims and Mulhouse in late November and December with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation as part of the 900th anniversary of Mahsati Ganjavi at the world level.

The events dedicated to Mahsati Ganjavi's creativity, the first Azerbaijani poetess, will allow viewers to get to know the talented poetess's poetry which attracts attention for its philosophical essence.

Born in Ganja, Mahsati Ganjavi was a 12th century poet and a famous rubai writer, with her most productive period spent in the palace of Sultan Mahmud Seldjuk and that of his uncle Sanjar Seldjuk. Ganjavi commonly wrote rubai in Persian, with love as a key theme, and her work is distinguished by its humanism, epicurism, and optimism.

Nizami Ganjavi, the greatest representative of the Eastern Renaissance in the 12th century, displayed the quintessence of world literature and philosophy in his immortal work Khamsa (The Five) through the aesthetic power of his art.

Nizami's works have been translated into English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, and other languages of the world. His life and creations have been the subject of numerous researches.
