Azerbaijan Carpet Museum was represented at the international forum on "Museums for Sustainable Development of Society" in Tbilisi, Georgia and at the regional seminar.

The event was co-organized by ICOM National Committee in Georgia, ICOM European Alliance, Georgian Museum Association, ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee, the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Georgian National Agency for Cultural Heritage and National Museum of Georgia as part of "2018 - Year of European cultural heritage", Azertag reported.

President of ICOM Dr Suay Aksoy, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum Shirin Malikova, President of ICOM European Alliance Dr. Luis Raposo, General Secretary of the European Museum Organizations Network (NEMO) Julia Pagel, ICOM Ian Fund Executive Director (ICOM Fund) Byorn Stenvers, member of the Board of Creativity Lab Ragnar Siil, General Director of the National Museum of Georgia, David Lordkipaniz, Chairman of the ICOM Georgian National Committee Inga Karaia, Chairman of ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee addressed the event.

Shirin Melikova made a report on the topic "Museum Sphere: Dynamics of Development" at the forum. Director of the Carpet Museum spoke about the activities of the leading museums of Azerbaijan , including the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, the Azerbaijan National Art Museum, the State Historical Architecture Reserve "Icherisheher", the Azerbaijan State Museum of Musical Culture, and the new projects.

She also stressed the role of museums in society in modern times. Pointing to the activities of the Carpet Museum, Shirin Melikova informed event participants about history, activities and projects implemented by this cultural center.

Shirin Malikova demonstrated a video clip about the events organized by the museums of Azerbaijan on the initiative of the ICOM National Committee on May 18 - International Day of Museums.

The Azerbaijani Carpet Museum, Heydar Aliyev Center and employees of Icheri Sheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve also attended the seminar organized within the forum.

Azerbaijan Carpet Museum operates as the site for the comprehensive research of traditional carpet weaving art and its popularization within world culture.

The Russian Museum of Ethnography is one of the largest and richest museums in Russia. The museum includes a collection of about 500,000 items relating to the ethnography of more than 150 peoples of Russia and its neighbors.

The history of the Russian Museum of Ethnography began in 1902 when the Russian Emperor Nicholas II issued the special Edict No. 420, establishing the Russian Museum of the Emperor Alexander III.

The contemporary life of the Russian Museum of Ethnography includes exhibition activities as well as providing ethnological conferences and educational programs for students and children. The collections from our Museum travel around the world and are on display at the museums of America, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, France and other countries.
