Saakashvili: Georgia's achievements reflected in WB rating

President Mikheil Saakashvili has expressed his satisfaction over the growth in the World Bank rating on the ease of doing business in Georgia.

He said Georgia ranked ninth in this annual survey, which is a success story for the country.

As a result of the World Bank's 'Ease of doing business' rating, Georgia ranked ninth in the world. The rankings are based on the situation in the field of business in 185 countries in 2012.

The Georgian president believes that the WB rating is an 'objective recognition' of the former Georgian government's merits in the development of the country.

Saakashvili noted that the new government of Georgia must contribute to the further development of the country and not demolish the achieved results.

"We must continue to move forward, attract investments and create new jobs, as otherwise there are no growth prospects for our country," the president noted.

The president is ready to approve new opposition standards in Georgia.

"We are ready to cooperate with the new government in the most essential issues and as leader of the opposition forces, I am ready to promote our country abroad as happened previously. I am willing to make efforts to attract new investments and create a positive image for Georgia," he stated.

He also said that during his presidency and that of the office of the United National Movement, pensions in the country have increased tenfold and the number of insured 100 times.

"The new government must move on and all the positive initiatives in this direction will be supported by the opposition," the Georgian president added.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 1. Around 14 parties and two political blocs participated in the elections.

Opposition coalition Georgian Dream, led by Bidzina Ivanishvili, won the election, and secured a 85-seat majority in the 150-seat legislature, surpassing President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement. Saakashvili, who will remain president until his current term ends in October 2013, last Wednesday nominated Ivanishvili as a candidate for the post of prime minister in the next cabinet.
