There are no restrictions on the use of palm oil for its
intended purpose in Azerbaijan, Senior Consultant of the Risk
Management Department of the Food Security Agency Ilaha Aliyeva
told Trend May 23.
She was commenting on the opinion of some experts that the majority
of oils sold in the country as butter, contains palm oil that is
harmful to the human body.
She noted that, palm oil is widely used because of its nutritional
features.
She added that the impact of this oil on human body is a topic for
wide discussion in the world, but science has not proved its
negative impact on human health.
Harm or benefit of a food product to human health can be
established after laboratory tests, she said.
"Palm oil for use in the food industry is one of the most
widespread in the world. It is used in production of confectionery,
ice cream and various sweets. Also in Azerbaijan there are no
restrictions on the use of this oil for its intended purpose. And
the sale of oil offered to customers as butter, which contains palm
oil, is prohibited, as it violates the rights of consumers," said
Aliyeva.
As for the brand under which real butter is sold Azerbaijan,
Aliyeva noted that, to establish whether the butter sold in the
trading network is real or not, it is necessary to conduct relevant
laboratory studies.
