Minister: European Olympic Games in Baku important event in Azerbaijani history
Holding the first European Olympic Games in Baku will be an important event in the Azerbaijani history, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said on Tuesday, Trend news agency reported.
Azerbaijan was prepared with great responsibility to the Congress of the 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee. A decision was made there on Saturday about holding the Games in Baku, the minister said at a press-conference in Baku.
The Games will be held in 2015.
The General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee made a decision to hold the first European Games in Baku as a result of a secret ballot by 38 of 48 votes (eight - against, two - abstained).
The new sports facilities will be constructed in connection with the Games in Baku, Rahimov added.
