Anti-Azerbaijani sentiment of US political elite has deep roots
By Elchin Mehdiyev
The anti-Azerbaijani sentiment among the US political elite has
deep roots.
Let's recall that the current US secretary of state, John Kerry,
signed an appeal when he was serving as a senator, in which he
urged “to break the economic blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and
Armenia”, stressing the need for “reuniting the Armenians of
Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia” and accused the Azerbaijani
authorities that they “succeeded in infringement of the cultural
rights of the region’s inhabitants.”
Has Kerry changed his attitude to Azerbaijan? Rather no, than yes.
Only this can explain Washington’s current attitude to Baku.
The pro-Armenian Western politicians today do not care about the
domestic political situation and democratic values in Azerbaijan,
and they do not wish any good to the people of Azerbaijan.
They are worried about strengthening of Azerbaijan and the
deplorable situation in Armenia on the backdrop of this. The main
purpose of these politicians is to weaken a country, which is
getting closer and closer every day to the liberation of its
historical lands.
It should be expected that the pressure on Baku will increase.
The pressure on Azerbaijan will be greater with the country’s
growing importance in the region, its development, and
strengthening of its political influence and economy.
However, it is necessary to bear in mind that the Azerbaijanis are
united in their goal to liberate the occupied territories.
Today, Azerbaijan honored the victims of January 20 tragedy, the
people who were killed in the suppression of large-scale rallies
against Armenia’s aggressive actions and its territorial claims
against Azerbaijan, the patronage provided to Armenia by the
leadership of the USSR.
The death of innocent people is a great tragedy. However, January
20, 1990 is a heroic page in the history of the struggle for
independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
A nation, which paid such a price for independence, will not follow
those, who want to deprive it of these gains, turn this nation into
a vassal, and force this nation to carry out its domestic and
foreign policy in accordance with its interests.
Others haven’t been able to do so, and the western allies of
Armenia, including those in the US, will fail as well.
