President: Turkmenistan adheres to positive neutrality strategy

Turkmenistan is consistently implementing the positive neutrality strategy,said Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .

President Berdimuhamedov made this statement at a meeting with Wu Hongbo, UN deputy secretary-general, in Ashgabat, the Turkmen government reported on June 15.

"The UN considers Turkmenistan as a reliable and responsible partner and appreciates the Turkmen side's active stance in strengthening the regional and international cooperation," Hongbo said.

According to the message, the importance of Turkmenistan's initiatives concerning enhancing the international partnership in such important areas as regional and global transit-transport infrastructure, energy security and environment was stressed at the meeting.

"The proposals voiced from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly and other representative forums, were approved and supported by the international community," the message said.

Stressing that Turkmenistan is always open for an equal and fruitful dialogue, President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed the country's intention to continue to do everything possible to consolidate the common efforts under the UN auspices to achieve the sustainable development goals.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality December 12, 1995.
