Restoration work continues in Azerbaijan’s Jojug Marjanli village, which was liberated from Armenian occupation in April 2016.

Within the restoration work, the country’s road operator Azeravtoyol JSC has started construction of a road leading to the liberated village.

The total length of the road will be 9 kilometers and its width will be 12 metres. Nine water crossings will be built along the two-lane road.

The new road will facilitative movement of residents of seven settlements – Gazakhlar, Horadiz, Arayatli, Ahmadbayli, Gahramanli, Imamverdi, and Jojug Marjanli village.

In late January, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to restore Jojug Marjanli. Under the order, 4 million manats were allocated for the construction of 50 private houses, a school building and relevant infrastructure at the first stage.

Moreover, President Aliyev signed an order on additional measures to construct the road leading to the liberated Jojug Marjanli village and allocated 4.3 million manats from the state budget for the construction of 9 km long highway in the village.

Besides, a mosque resembling the mosque in Azerbaijan’s occupied city of Shusha will be built in Jojug Marjanli.

This was announced by Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade at an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide at the CMO on February 21.

“Great return to Nagorno-Karabakh begins with Jojug Marjanli,” said the State Adviser on Multinational, Multicultural and Religious Affairs of Azerbaijan, Kamal Abdulla, while speaking at the event.

He expressed hope that one of the destroyed houses in the village will function as open sky museum as a reminder about the Armenian vandalism.

The village was fully liberated from the Armenian occupation in April 2016, when Azerbaijani Armed Forces prevented an Armenian provocation on the contact line. To protect civilian population, the Azerbaijani army launched counter attacks and as a result, the Azerbaijani troops retook hills around the village of Talish, as well as Seysulan settlement, and also took over Leletepe hill located in the direction of Fizuli region.

Recently, representatives of foreign countries’ diplomatic missions and heads of international organizations, as well as representatives of foreign media outlets accredited in Azerbaijan visited Jojug Marjanli. They got acquainted with the ongoing reconstruction work in the village and were informed about the atrocities committed by Armenians while Jojug Marjanli was under the occupation.

Currently, ANAMA carries out demining operation in Jojug Marjanli. Following that, the work on construction of new houses will be launched in the village.
