Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev visited Baku Metro Station
on April 16.
The head of state reviewed new trains at the Nariman Narimanov
electrical shed, which were delivered with the aim of modernizing
the metro station’s train park.
Chairman of Baku Metro Station company, Zaur Huseynov said the
company signed a memorandum in 2014 with French Alstom, one of the
world’s leaders in railway infrastructure, which owns 25 percent of
Metrovagonmash's market shares.
The memorandum envisages the purchase of three 5-car trains by
Baku Metro Station. Two trains have already been delivered to
Baku.
These 4th generation trains have an engine power of 170 kilovolts
in comparison with 114 kilovolts in previous generation trains.
Where the lead cars of the old trains weighed 38 tons and the
middle cars 36 tons, the lead cars of the new trains weigh 34 tons
and while middle cars 29 tons.
The head of state was told that the creation of the Diagnostics
Complex is one of the important steps towards improving the
infrastructure of the Baku Metro Station to international
standards. The complex will ensure complete security and
passengers' comfort.
The new generation trains also offer additional seating spaces -- 330 seats compared to 308 for the old models.
A park in the area of the Baku Metro Station has recently been redeveloped. A canteen and spare parts shed have been built here.
The subway system is developing rapidly in the Azerbaijani capital. Baku Metro with a length of thirty-five kilometers has 2 lines and 23 stations. It is planned to be enlarged to 119 km with 5 lines and up to 76 stations by 2030. Currently, eight stations and two train depots are under construction.
Some subways are also planned to be opened in the most populated and developed cities of the country, including Sumgayit, Nakhchivan and Ganja.
