Thirty-three countries apply to participate in Euro-2014

The number of countries making final bids for participation in the Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championship reached 33.

The Championship will be held in Baku on June 13-15.

Andorra, Austria , Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, and of course, Azerbaijan will participate in this major sports event.

The news was announced by the secretariat of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) in Lausanne on March 19.

The number of countries that will compete in the individual tournament among juniors is 32, while 21 teams of the Old World will compete in the adult group competitions.

Each country can be represented by four individual young athletes, with one reserve team and an adult team in the group exercises.

A champion of the continent will be determined among the top 20 gymnasts following the results of the European Championship held in Vienna in 2013.

Overall, some 258 gymnasts will compete for nine sets of awards in Baku.

The Championship's schedule shows that the first day of the tournament will include a magnificent opening ceremony, as well as qualifying junior competitions with hoop and ball. Also, a champion of Europe in the double-event will be determined among the group teams.

On the second day, the juniors will perform with maces and ribbon. A champion of Europe in the team competition will be determined, and all-around finals will be held among adult gymnasts.

The finals in individual rounds among the junior and group teams will be held on the last day of the competition, held on the National Salvation Day.

The Championship's closing ceremony and the gala concert, in which European famous gymnasts will participate, will be held on the last day.

Members of the Technical Committee for Rhythmic Gymnastics UEG will be in Baku on April 3-6. They will cast the lots of the Championship, meet the members of the Organizing Committee, participate in presenting the website and promotional video, and discuss technical issues regarding the tournament with President of the Technical Committee Heide Bruneder.

The European Championship will be held in the National Gymnastics Arena near Koroglu subway station. This modern building is among Baku's new sports venues.

The delegations of the participating countries will stay near the competition venue in the Athletes' Village, built for the first European Games 2015.

The local and foreign media will cover the event. Press representatives can receive online accreditation through the website of the European Union of Gymnastics. The deadline for press applications is May 28, 2014.
