Tehran Plasco fire: 21 dead, at least 20 missing
By Trend
Twenty-one people were killed after the blazing Plasco building in Tehran crumbled on Jan. 19, while 20-25 people are trapped under the rubble, Mehr News Agency has reported.
Almost all of those killed were fire-fighters.
The fire engulfed the 17-story high-rise, which housed a big shopping center, on Jan. 19. The building collapsed as the fire-fighters were trying to extinguish the blaze.
A spokesman of the Iranian National Fire and Safety Service has told local media that some of the people trapped under the rubble are alive, but the operation to rescue them is going slowly and the death toll may increase.
The damage to the Plasco building is estimated at about $500 million, Ali Fazeli, the head of Iran Chamber of Guilds, told IRNA.
