Uzbekistan is preparing for an early presidential election scheduled for December 4.

The country made a decision to go to elections after the recent death of President Islam Karimov, who led Uzbekistan for 25 years.

Four political parties operating in the country have decided on their presidential candidates last week, the decision on the nomination of which will be submitted for approval to the Congress.

Four political parties in the country have the right to nominate a presidential candidate.

They are the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish (National Revival), People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice).

The political council UzLiDep nominated for presidency candidacy of Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Democratic Party "Milly Tiklanish" - Sarvar Otamuradov, SDPU "Adolat" - Narimon Umarov, People's Democratic Party - Hotamzhon Ketmonov.

Although the candidates have yet to be approved by the supreme bodies of parties - the Congress and the Kurultai, there is much hope for them to be nominated for the popular vote of December 4.

On the basis of the submitted documents the CEC will take a final decision on the approval of parties in elections within five days

In accordance with Article 24 of the Law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the political parties have the right to nominate candidates for the presidency. The parties can nominate candidates if they are registered by the Ministry of Justice no later than six months prior to the date of announcement of the election campaign.

With no less than seventy days of the elections, the political parties should apply to the CEC submitting a request to participate in the elections, signed by their leaders, the reference of the Ministry of Justice containing information about the registration of the party, and information about the future candidate for president of Uzbekistan.

Most of the local and foreign observers predict that Shavkat Mirziyoyev, conductor of the policy of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, who has vast experience in management of multifaceted economy of the country, has more chances to win the upcoming elections. He is the head of the government since 2003 and is the acting president now.

Earlier, Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has adopted a decision to create constituencies for the presidential election.

The list of the constituencies, including the number of voters and the location of district election commissions, will be published by media outlets.

Election campaigns started on September 9. Registration of presidential candidates will be held from September 30 until October 20 in accordance with the action plan for preparations and holding the presidential election.

Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov passed away on September 2 after suffering a stroke.

The president of Uzbekistan is elected for a period of five years.
