Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has ordered allocation of funds for seed production development in the country.

Under the presidential decree, 12 million manats ($7.73 million) will be allocated from the Presidential Reserve Fund to the Agriculture Ministry for meeting the country’s demand in seed varieties of high yielding plants, increasing production of seed products, ensuring cleaning, filling, packing and storage of plant seeds, construction of specialized enterprises for production and storage of different plant seeds, and providing them with machinery and equipment.

The Finance Ministry was tasked to deal with the issues arising from order.

Recent agrarian reforms in Azerbaijan ensured the dynamic development of agriculture. Fundamental changes were made in the agricultural sector, new economic and property relations were formed, regulatory framework was improved. To improve the efficiency and transparency in the management, e-agriculture system is applied.

The state has established a number of benefits for farmers. Thus, producers of agricultural products are exempted from taxes except for the land tax. Farmers and entrepreneurs enjoy opportunity to get loans to buy seeds and fertilizers, equipment and breeding cattle, which are given on lease by the Agroleasing JSC. At the same time, the state issues subsidies for fuel used in cultivation of sown areas.

Due to this, agricultural boom took place in the country for recent years. Grain yield of 2015 amounted to 30.4 quintal per hectare, which is 7 quintals more than the figure of previous year. Productivity of vegetables and fruits also made a big leap in the last year.
