Ira's envoy: Peaceful election to boost Azerbaijan’s stability

The fact that Azerbaijan’s parliamentary election was held in a peaceful atmosphere is going to boost the country’s stability, Iranian Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak Ayeen told Trend on November 3.

“Despite some foreign efforts to imply that there was tension during the election, the independent reports indicate that the election has been held peacefully,” Pak Ayeen said.

“Baku’s resistance to unjustified pressure from the West proved that some Western countries’ policy to dictate and exert pressure is ineffective,” he noted.

Azerbaijan held the parliamentary elections on November 1.

Over 2.89 million voters cast their ballots during the election, which is six percent more than in the previous elections. The voter turnout at the election was 55.7 percent.

This year some 767 candidates run for 125 seats in the country’s supreme legislative body. As many as 503 international observers from 40 organizations and over 66,000 local observers watched the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan.

Following the election, many foreign observers, analysts and experts pointed out the transparency, openness and smooth voting process at the election, as well as high voter turnout.
