Azerbaijan to create nuclear research center by 2015

Preparatory work for the creation of a nuclear research center in Azerbaijan will be completed by 2015.
Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Iltimas Mammadov made the remark on September 25.
In the coming days, the legal documents for the creation of the National Center for Nuclear Research would be signed.
Mammadov also added that the location of the center also needs to be defined.
"After completion of the preparatory work, we will start talks with the countries with which we plan to cooperate. Meanwhile, technologies necessary in the center would be defined," Mammadov said.
Earlier, Argentinean and French companies expressed readiness to take part in the construction of the center.
The Argentine company INVAP S.E. has called for further cooperation in the construction of nuclear reactors. French company Areva has also proposed intention to construct nuclear research reactor in the country.
The National Nuclear Research Center established by the Ministry will use nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.
Azerbaijan has already begun cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) in this field.
