Heydar Aliyev Center launches new project for schoolkids

By Sabina Idayatova

The Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku started the implementation of a new project for schoolkids on the eve of the new academic year.

The project contributes to the upbringing of the new generation on the basis of national and spiritual values and traditions, care for historical heritage, expansion of knowledge about the country, and the shape-up of the ideas of modern world culture, the Heydar Aliyev Center said on September 16.

Under the project, tours of schoolchildren to the Heydar Aliyev Center are being organized.

Over the course of three hours, schoolchildren become familiar with the Center's building, are provided with information about the life and activity of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, familiarize themselves with exhibitions at the Center, and participate in different games and competitions.

Interactive training programs are organized for each age category and keepsakes are given.

Construction of the Heydar Aliyev Center was launched in 2007 and completed on May 10, 2012, to celebrate the National Leader's 89th anniversary. Recognized as one of the world's architectural masterpieces, the Heydar Aliyev Center immediately grew into an architectural landmark of modern Baku. Zaha Hadid, the author of the building's design, is an architect recognized worldwide and the winner of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.

The overall shape of the building resembles a wave-like ascension from the ground towards the sky followed by gradual descent down to the earth. This is not only a tribute to post-modern architecture, but also a portrayal of an eternal cycle. The lines on the building bridge the past with the present. The harmonious link between the Center's exterior and interior aspires to remove any boundaries in the building's perception considering that this place is meant to be open to anyone irrespective of gender, race and origin by bringing together people united by shared ideas.

Many of those who happened to see the design of the Heydar Aliyev Center for the first time had hard time believing that such a project might ever come true. In fact, even in theory, the erection of a building of such an extraordinary design looked far from being anyhow realistic.

The Center is designated to host activities in the field of profound research and broad promotion of the nation-building philosophy and the Azerbaijanism ideology of National Leader, former President Heydar Aliyev, as well as encourage studies in the Azerbaijani history, language, culture, national and spiritual values.
