Azerbaijani officials discuss coop in China's Xinjiang autonomous region

The second meeting of the working group for trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region was held in Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region, on July 10.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov. Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Shi Dagang led the Chinese delegation.

During the discussions it was noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and China, in particular, between Azerbaijan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, are intensively developing. The taskforce noted the importance of further deepening of the relations as well as exchanged views on possible ways of developing bilateral relations.

A protocol was signed at the meeting. Then a presentation on the Sumgayit chemical industrial park in Azerbaijan was made for the Chinese delegation.

The Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Deputy Minister is on a visit to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The main purpose of the visit is to participate in the meeting of the working group. In addition, its members are due to meet with the leadership of the region and to get familiar with the economic zones in Urumqi.

The delegation includes officials of the Ministries of Economic Development, Foreign Affairs, Industry and Energy, Transport, Culture and Tourism and other government agencies.
