Azerbaijan, Afghanistan eye ways of developing cooperation

Azerbaijan`s Interior Minister Ramil Usubov received his Afghan counterpart Ghulam Mujtaba Patang on July 9 to discuss how to boost cooperation between the two countries` law enforcement authorities.

At the meeting, Usubov hailed the Azerbaijan-Afghanistan relations as successfully developing.

He expressed confidence the Afghan Minister`s visit would give a push to boosting the bilateral cooperation.

Touching the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, particularly of the occupation of Azerbaijan`s lands as a result of the Armenian military aggression, Usubov praised Afghanistan`s support to Azerbaijan`s just position on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.

Noting the experience of Afghanistan in fighting against illegal drug trafficking and terrorism, he said that Azerbaijan could benefit from it.

Patang, in turn, thanked the Azerbaijani government for its contribution to re-establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He stressed the importance of reciprocal visits, saying "they would give a push to developing our relations".

Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Pakistan and Afghanistan Dashgin Shikarov, and ambassador of Afghanistan Shaker Kargar were also present at the meeting.

On the same day, the Afghan delegation also met with Chief of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Commander of the Azerbaijani Border Guard, Lieutenant General Elchin Guliyev.

The meeting participants heard information about Azerbaijan's system of border security, service's duties, measures to improve the protection of the state border, as well as the achieved success was presented at the meeting and an exchange of views on the prospects of mutual cooperation was carried out.

The Afghan delegation got acquainted with the activities of Azerbaijan's State Border Service Academy and the Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Complex.
