Train movement in Azerbaijan fully restored after tank derailment

The movement of trains on Baku and Azerbaijani western regions route, stopped because of a train accident, has been fully restored, spokesman for Azerbaijani Railways Nadir Azmammadov told Trend news agency on Sunday.

He said that the accident did not affect the schedule of trains, because they were moving on the additional line. The capsized tanks have been already raised.

A commission has been established to investigate the accident.

Seven tanks with oil derailed in Azerbaijani Hajigabul region located 113 kilometers south-west of Baku. A fire occurred as a result of the accident, the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

According to the report, seven of 40 tanks of the train, carrying crude oil from Baku to Georgia, derailed at the Pirsaat station. Three tanks, with a capacity of 60 tons each, overturned. Oil spilled in an area of 1,000 square meters and burst into flame.

Fire engines of the State Fire Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived and prevented fire from spreading to other tanks and nearby houses.

At present, the operations are underway to eliminate the consequences of the accident.
