Deputy PM: Serbian-Azerbaijani political relations should be backed by economic ties

Serbia supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and is grateful for the non-recognition of the so-called Republic of Kosovo, Serbian Minister of Home, Foreign Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajich told journalists in Baku on Tuesday.

"Our visit confirms the excellent political relations between the two countries. Since 2009, we have signed 21 agreements in various fields. Moreover, in February, Serbia and Azerbaijan will sign a strategic partnership agreement. We would like the good political relations between the two countries to be accompanied by the economic relations," Ljajich said.

Signing of a protocol on the results of the second session of the Azerbaijani-Serbian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation took place in Baku on Tuesday.

"The protocol covers the areas of cooperation that we want to develop. We see potential for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, infrastructure, construction, and tourism. We want to increase trade turnover between the two countries, as well as the volume of investments. I am convinced that this meeting of the commission will further promote cooperation, "Ljajich said.

He noted with regret that indicators of trade between the two countries are still low, amounting to about $20 million this year.
