Azerbaijan's first championship on an intellectual game called "Khamsa" ended on December 1, the organizers said.

Conducted in the Russian language, the event was organized by Azerbaijan's Youth and Sports Ministry and Youth' Intellectual Development Center.

Eighteen teams took part in the championship, 16 of which participated in the main tournament.

Besides the title of champion, intellectuals competed for the right to represent the country at a world championship which will be held in Baku on December 6-7.

"Regular national championships on 'Khamsa' in the Azerbaijani language have been held for several years," Head of the Youth 'Intellectual Development Center and author and producer of the Khamsa television project Faig Huseynov said. "The national championship was held in the Russian language for the first time and brought together the republic's strongest intellectuals."

Azerbaijan's teams "Slon v Udave", "Jazz", and "M4A1", who finished first, second, and third, received the right to represent Azerbaijan at the world championship along with the representatives of Latvia, Germany, Israel , Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Moldova, and Estonia.

Khamsa is based on the number "five", so each team consists of five players one of whom is the team's captain. The entire game consists of 5 rounds. 5 themes are played out in the first three rounds, with 5 questions asked on each theme. Four teams - "yellow", "red", "blue", and "green"- usually take part in the game.

Along with the traditional intellectual games "What? Where? When?", "Brain Ring", and "Jeopardy!", Khamsa is the main type of intellectual programs conducted at different tournaments.

Khamsa, which has become a national intellectual game, has attracted the attention of people of all ages and interests, because it is accessible to all people who want to gain more knowledge and are not afraid to demonstrate their intelligence.
