Iran is prepared to supply agricultural products to Russia through Azerbaijan. The two countries plan to discuss development of relations, in particular in the economic sphere, during a future visit of an Iranian delegation to Baku.

The delegation, led by the head of the Iranian province of Ardebil Majid Khodabakhsh, will soon visit Azerbaijan, said Arjang Azizi, deputy head of the province for international affairs.

Azizi noted that the purpose of the visit is to develop relations between the two countries, in particular in the economic sphere.

“The supply of agricultural products produced in Ardabil to the Russian market will be discussed with Azerbaijani officials during the visit,” said Azizi.

He noted that the Iranian delegation, consisting of 20 members, will include representatives of private companies, adding that the delegation will leave for Russia after visiting Azerbaijan.

The delegation will also discuss resolving problems at the Bilasuvar border checkpoint as part of the visit, he noted.

The Iranians have recently shown interest in developing trade relations with Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and Iran are focused on expanding economic ties in various fields, including industry, agriculture, energy, alternative energy, and transportation.

In 2014, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $186.6 million.

Iran's export to Azerbaijan during the first half of 2015 decreased 55.36 percent to $42.52 million year-on-year. Azerbaijan's exports to Iran also decreased 67.11 percent to $11.16 million during that period.
