Azerbaijan plans to construct a new carriage works plant, Azerbaijan Railways LTD's press service director said.

Nadir Azmammadov noted that negotiations with Russian Uralvagonzavod Scientific Industrial Corporation are currently underway.

One of the proposals is commissioning the plant in 2015. The facility is planned to produce sedentary and sleeper wagons, building 2,000 wagons per year.

Uralvagonzavod plans to produce six models of freight cars, including rail tanks, hoppers (self-unloading wagons), and gondola wagons.

Uralvagonzavod intends to have a 50-percent share in this project, after which the volume of investment by the two sides will stand at €20-30 million.

The new wagons produced in this plant can be used on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. They can also be used for Azerbaijan's needs, or delivered to Georgia and Turkey.

Uralvagonzavod is a Russian company engaged in the production of military equipment, road construction machinery, and railway wagons. It is one of the largest scientific and industrial complexes in Russia, and the largest main battle tank manufacturer in the world.

The Swiss company Stadler is developing a project on the construction of a passenger car plant in Azerbaijan's second largest city, Ganja. The plant will allow for the construction and rebuilding of passenger wagons.

The construction of a new plant, which will be established on the basis of the wagon depot in Ganja, is expected to start in 2014.
