Thermal power plants (TPP) produced 3.88 billion kilowatt/hours of the total volume of electricity generated in the first two months of 2014.

The news was announced by the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee on March 18.

The figure is 4.8 percent more than the same period in 2013.

The total amount of electricity generated in Azerbaijan in January and February reached 4.03 billion kw/h, 4.3 percent more than the same period in 2013, the committee said.

Azerbaijani hydroelectric power plants (HPP) generated 141 million kw/h of electricity in January and February, which is 9.1 percent less than the same period in 2013.

Some 20.63 billion kw/h of electricity was generated in Azerbaijan in 2013, which is 0.6 percent more than 2012.

Out of the total volume of electricity generated in 2013, 19.26 billion kw/h fell to thermal power, which is 2.7 percent more than 2012.

HPP generated 1.37 billion kw/ h of electricity in 2013, 21.7 percent less than 2012.

However, power export decreased in Azerbaijan in this period. The country exported 155.35 million kw/h of electricity in the first two months of 2014, compared to 232.96 million kw/h in the same period in 2013.

Azerenergy, the main electricity producer in Azerbaijan, has over 200 substations with a capacity exceeding 6,500 MW, as well as eight hydroelectric plants and 13 thermal power plants.
