Azerbaijan to finalize major road project in summer 2013

Azeryolservice JSC of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry is going to complete the reconstruction and expansion of Ganja circular road in August.

A source at the company told Trend news agency that the reconstruction works are being conducted in the framework of two projects. The first project provides the reconstruction of a road section with the length of 37.5 kilometers, and its transfer from the third to the second category. This project is funded by a $55.4-million credit of the Asian Development Bank.

The second project provides reconstruction of Yevlakh-Ganja highway (88.5 km long), including Ganja circular road (37.5 km), and the construction of the second strip with transferring it to the first road category. This project, in turn, is being realized by assets of the South Korean Shinhan bank in the amount of $180 million.

The works on the first project are close to completion and commissioning of the road is scheduled in May this year. Reconstruction of Ganja circular road will be the second completed road project of the ADB in Azerbaijan.

"In turn, work on transferring the circular road to the first category through the Korean credit is expected to be completed in August this year," the source said.

Four bridges, three road junctions and four bus stations are being constructed, tubes of different diameter are being installed as a part of the conducted works.
