Azerbaijan has appointed its second trade representative abroad.

Teymur Nadiroglu will act as the trade representative of Azerbaijan in China, the Azerbaijani Economy Ministry reported, adding that this will allow to expand non-oil exports, promote the ‘Made in Azerbaijan’ brand and attract investment in the country.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and China amounted to about $1 billion in 2016, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan. During the year, the export of Azerbaijani products to China grew 5.1 times, to $272 million, and imports - by 38 percent - to $704 million. China took the fifth place among the largest trading partners of the country.

The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $395.6 million in January-April 2017, which is 2.3 times more, as compared to same period of 2016.

Azerbaijan’s first trade representative was assigned to Russia- Ruslan Aliyev. The government of Azerbaijan is expected to appoint trade representative to UAE and other countries.

President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on January 26, on appointment of trade representatives to Azerbaijan’s embassies and consulates in foreign countries.

Under the order, the Minister of Economy appoints trade representatives to Azerbaijan’s embassies and consulates with President`s consent.

Trade representatives’ main mission is to take measures to expand Azerbaijan`s economic and trade relations with foreign countries, protect economic interests of Azerbaijan, increase export of Azerbaijani goods and services, promote Azerbaijan’s business environment and investment opportunities.

Besides, Azerbaijan’s first ever Trade House was opened in the Belarusian capital Minsk and the second one maybe opened in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region.

Trade houses in foreign countries will facilitate the export process, promote an export of competitive Azerbaijani production and enable the countries to expand trade operations.
