New rules for SIM card sales to facilitate registration process

Application of new rules for SIM card sales in Azerbaijan has provided online identification of citizens, a source in the telecommunication market of the country told Trend.

After the government adopted a decision on amendments to the procedure of SIM card sales, their registration has become centralized from February 1 and is carried out on single for all operators rules.

From now on, information about SIM card holders is registered in the database of both operators (Azercell, Azerfon and Bakcell) and information and computing center of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan.

This allows to organize sales and to eliminate existing shortcomings in this sphere. This became possible through unification of subscriber base in accordance with individual identification numbers. Previously, there were cases when different identity documents (driver's license, military ID, etc) were used when buying SIM cards.

Unification in accordance with individual identification numbers also helped eliminate errors on incomplete and misleading information about citizens, or information that is not reflected in the registry, because names, surnames, addresses and other personal information were reflected in different ways.

Moreover, it is planned to launch services of notifying subscribers of mobile operators by various government agencies. They include judicial notice, notice of termination of validity of identity documents, bank notices, notices of utility debt, debt for communication services, fines, etc.
