The infrastructure created in Azerbaijan for the Baku 2015 European Games will allow the country to host in the near future a sporting event of even larger scale, the francetv sport channel’s website quoted the French National Olympic and Sports Committee’s President Denis Masseglia as saying.

According to the article, the success in holding the first-ever European Games can allow Baku to host the 2024 Olympics.

The article said that until now there have been the Pan American Games, the African Games, the Asian Games, and now there is the European Games, reminding that some of the sports at the Baku 2015 give license for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
