High results expected from Azerbaijani judokas

Secretary General of Azerbaijan Judo Federation Elnur Jamalkhanov expects high results from the majority of the athletes in the First European Games.

He said that currently, Azerbaijani judokas are in a training meeting in the country’s Goychay region. “It is the last training meeting on the eve of the First European Games.”

Following these trainings, the athletes will return to Baku and continue their preparations here, the secretary general told Trend.

Jamalkhanov said the athletes feel good. “Azerbaijani judokas Elmar Gasimov and Rustam Orujov successively won gold medals in the Grand Prix tournaments, which shows that the athletes are fully ready for the European Games.”

He said that great hopes are pinned on these athletes. “We expect at least two gold medals.”

He also called on fans to be active and support the athletes. “Fans give moral force and psychological stimulus to the athletes.”

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
